Dubai with Kids at New Year: A Relaxed 5-Night Plan
A relaxed 5-night Dubai plan for families at New Year 2027: one hotel base, grouped outings, rest time and a manageable 31 December.
Dubai is generous to families in December. The weather is pleasant, the city is organised, and there is more to do than you can fit into a week. The risk is the opposite problem: trying to see everything and returning home more tired than when you left.
This plan uses one hotel base, groups outings by area so you are not crossing the city repeatedly, and builds in rest. Treat it as a skeleton you can adjust for your children’s ages.
Who this trip suits, and the main compromise
It suits families who like a polished, easy destination with plenty of indoor options and short flights from India. The compromise is New Year’s Eve: the busiest districts are crowded, and moving around late with children can be slow. We plan for that rather than hoping for the best.
Where to base yourselves
Choose one area and stay put. Two sensible options are the Marina and JBR area, which puts a beach, a walkable waterfront and a tram within reach, or a hotel closer to Downtown, which keeps the big attractions nearby but is the most affected on 31 December. For a relaxed family trip we lean towards the Marina side.
When comparing hotels, check family room or connecting-room options, whether breakfast is included and starts early enough, pool depth and shade, and how close you are to a metro or tram stop. Ask about baby cots or extra beds before booking.
A five-night shape
- Night 1 (arrival): Settle in, short walk, early dinner. Flights from India often land at awkward hours, so do not plan anything on arrival day.
- Day 2: A slow morning at the pool or beach, then a nearby afternoon outing in your own area.
- Day 3: One big attraction, such as an aquarium or science-led museum, finished by lunchtime, then a rest break back at the hotel.
- Day 4: Old Dubai in the morning for a change of pace, such as the creek and markets, followed by a quiet afternoon.
- Day 5 (31 December): Keep the day light and decide about the evening, below.
- Day 6: Late checkout if possible, then departure.
31 December with children
You have three realistic choices. Join the crowds near the main fireworks, which means arriving very early, booking transport or a nearby table in advance, and accepting a late return. Book a hotel or restaurant with a view and a set dinner, which is calmer but usually carries a festive supplement. Or celebrate at your own resort with an earlier dinner and a countdown the children can manage.
Whichever you choose, do not assume last year’s fireworks times, venues or rules will repeat. Check official Dubai tourism and venue announcements closer to the date, and confirm road closures and metro hours for the night.
Getting there from India
Dubai is well connected to major Indian cities, with many nonstop options from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, and a flight time of a few hours. Peak-season availability varies, so check your own city, and note whether your flight lands overnight, since that affects check-in and how rested the children will be. For arrival, a pre-arranged hotel or private transfer is simpler than working out transport with tired family members.
Entry preparation
Requirements depend on your passport and your situation, and they change. Confirm them on the official UAE government and airline sources before you pay for anything, and check validity and blank-page requirements for each family member’s passport, including children. Our guide to authentic visa rules explains how to verify.
Weather and what to pack
Visit Dubai describes December as one of the more comfortable months, but that is a seasonal pattern, not a forecast. Pack light cotton for the day, a thin layer for cool evenings and air-conditioned malls, swimwear, sun hats and sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, and a lightweight stroller or carrier if your child needs one. Our full packing checklist covers the rest.
What the trip will cost
Rather than give a number that will be out of date, here are the things to price for your own dates: flights for everyone, five or six nights of rooms (check occupancy rules for family rooms), airport transfers, entry costs, meals, attraction tickets, any mandatory festive-dinner supplement, taxes and tourism fees that hotels charge, and travel insurance. Peak-week prices around 31 December can be much higher than the week before, so shifting dates by a few days can make a big difference.

Planning note: we put this guide together in October 2026. Flights, entry rules, festive events and hotel offers change, so we will re-check the details in December. Treat anything dated or priced as something to confirm before you book.
Tell us your departure city, dates, who is travelling and your children’s ages, and we will build a Dubai plan that keeps the days light.
